On April 25th, the French and Irish regulatory authorities adopted a joint decision regarding the financing of the electric interconnection project “Celtic Interconnector”, connecting France and Ireland. This interconnection is of strategic importance for the European Union, and will be the first link between Ireland and continental Europe. The CRE and the CRU agreed on a cost allocation reflecting the benefits brought by the project for both countries, leading to France bearing 35% of the project’s investment costs. The CRE and the CRU stress the need for a strong financial support from the European Union and support the application of the Irish and French transmission system operators, Eirgrid and RTE, to such a financial aid.
